Our 2008 broadcast is now complete and we hope you enjoyed 28 days of fun and entertainment reflecting your lifestyle. This was our biggest and boldest broadcast to date and indications show that our 2008 transmission was listened to my more LGBT people than ever before.

With just over 2 weeks to go until Gaydio hits the airwaves once again we wanted to tell you about a range of events we have coming up.

Friday 1st August sees the launch party at AXM bar and AXM late. We'd like to encourage as many people to come along as possible, with full details to follow, but it promised to be a action packed night in true Gaydio style.

We will also have a weekly event at AXM as part of the Gaydio Gaymeshow Marathon. Full details and information will be posted to this group and via our mailing list, which you can sign up to at gaydio.co.uk

Here at Gaydio HQ, we are working hard to bring you the best broadcast to date this summer. From August 4th Gaydio will be the only place to get your up to the minute gay news and information as well as a fantastic line up of chat and music. Once again we will be at the heart of the community with a series of outside broadcast from Manchester and beyond. Already planned are live broadcasts from our headline sponsor, AXM bar as well as Spirit, View, Cruz 101 and the Mr Gay UK final.

Our final weekend will have shows live from Gran Canaria, including Club Mancha, Bar Desire and The Gallery. Keep your radio tuned to 87.7fm from 4th August, and, if you haven’t already, sign up to our mailing list for full details of our plans.

Gaydio has now submitted an application to Ofcom for a full time community radio licence. We will find out in the New Year if we have been successful and if we are we will be awarded a five year FM radio licence.

We do know that there are a further six groups that have submitted applications in the Manchester area and there is unlikely to be frequency available to licence them all, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. We've spent a lot of time putting our proposal together and believe that we have put a strong application in. This will be available to view on the Ofcom website in due course. Whether we are successful or not you will be hearing Gaydio again soon

No you never imagined it, Big Brother's Gerry & Shauny had a little reunion in the studio and took part in a show on Manchester Pride Monday at the home of the LGF.

The show aired 'Big Brother - what the housemates did next' on the Friday following the grand final and has been repeated a few times since.

In true Gaydio style, we're planning on a wrap party to mark the end of our fantastic 28 day broadcast. Events begin at Manchesters AXM bar on Sunday 2nd September from 8pm. This Friday Gaydio packs its bags and heads off to Blackpool to bring you a day of shows from the coast. From 1 o’clock Brian Day is live at the Mardi Gras Hotel talking to locals and visitors and getting ready for the big Blackpool illuminations switch-on in the evening. Then from 10, Brian Day and Toby Whitehouse bring you live and exclusive coverage of the Mr Gay UK 2007 competition from the Flamingo club. With a launch sequence not so dis-similar to that of a NASA shuttle expedition, Manchester eagerly waited to hear just what breakfasts Chris and Emma would have to say for the launch of Gaydio Summer 2007.  Greeting listeners with 'woops' and claps Chris set this broadcast well and truly on the road.

This year's Mr Gay UK competition will be broadcast live on Gaydio from the Flamingo club - Blackpool's hottest night spot. Coverage will start from 10pm on 31st August and carries on into the small hours. We'll also have exclusive interviews each day on our afternoon shows with the 20 finalists.

Gaydio's Summer just keeps getting hotter!

Gaydio is very proud to be part of AXM Bar’s Sparkle In The Park, Manchester’s weekend festival for the trans community. Gaydio’s very own Brian Day and Toby Whitehouse are to put in appearances on the stage over the weekend, and many of the Gaydio team are providing a hand with the stewarding and technical set up.

Manchester Pride, officially the UK's Best Pride Festival as voted for by readers of the Pink Paper was launched for 2007 at the Radission Edwardian Hotel on Wednesday 18 April.

Gaydio's Chris Holliday was there covering the event live for BBC Radio Manchester.

The big announcement of the night was that the ten day festival has achieved its long-term goal of becoming a charity in its own right, marking the completion of the Opertaion Fundraiser project.

After the success of the Matinee on Gaydio this February, The Matinee returns in Podcast form.

Gaydio's month long broadcast closed by burying a time capsule in Sackville Gardens in central Manchester. During the broadcast we asked presenters, guests and the public what items they'd put in a time casual to show future generation exactly what LGBT life is like in 2007. We received an exciting response from far and wide and selected the most appropriate items to be placed in the capsule. Items chosen for the capsule included club flyers, magazine articles on future development of the gay village, an HIV awareness ribbon and photographs of significant LGBT events in Manchester including Pride, Queer up North and the Red and Wild festivals. Also included were several recordings of Gaydio second broadcast.

We are now broadcasting live across Manchester on 87.7FM providing a mix of entertainment and music 24 hours a day. Highlights of our broadcast include

Canal Street Sessions – Every night from 9 you can hear an exclusive set from top DJ's around the UK, uninterrupted and in the mix. Friday and Saturday nights will be LIVE from well known LGBT venues. DJs already confirmed have regular residencies in many venues from Brighton, London, The Midlands and Scotland. 

Celebrity Mixtape – Sunday nights feature well known personalities behind the microphone, taking over the Gaydio airwaves with their choice of music. 

Community Focus – Weekday afternoons give you the chance to catch up with Brian Day as he takes a look at LGBT news, views and comment with guests from a range of organisations with colourful stories to tell.

As part of our ‘Canal Street Sessions’ series, where we feature the cream of Village DJs from Manchester and beyond, Gaydio will be playing an exclusive live set from the guys of Manchester's gay club Poptastic. It’s been a battle and a half, but finally the transmitter is up, the studio is together and we're ready to begin our test transmissions. The word about Manchester’s new LGBT radio station is well and truly spreading. We’ve had messages and guestbook entries from Canada, Germany and Japan – and even been covered in Melbourne’s weekly gay read, The Melbourne Star – click here and check out page 5 for the proof. Not only that but our ‘soon to be’ breakfast presenters Abby and Ste took part in a live link up with the breakfast team on JOY FM – Melbourne’s full time LGBT community station. So if you’re reading this from your part of the world let us know how far the news of Gaydio is travelling.

For the first time in its history the candle lit vigil will be broadcast live on Gaydio and BBC Radio Manchester. This will be the first time that the vigil has be broadcast live and means that it’s vital messages will be heard across the city. The vigil was started in order to help remember those from our communities that have been lost to aids over the years and has become an integral part of the Pride festival. We'll be preceding our live broadcast with a special community show focusing on the issues surrounding HIV and Aids. The vigil can be very moving and we at Gaydio strongly encourage everyone to go down and help remember those lost before us. If you can't make it then we hope you'll be listening on air or online to Gaydio.

If, like us, you can’t resist answering a question in the paper or you buy a scratch card every time you visit the local Spar then you'll love some of our fabulous quizzes and competitions we have planned for Gaydio.  We had tonnes of prizes to be given away including Ministry of Sound and Cream albums, gym sessions courtesy of Holmes Place, tickets to Creamfields, entrance to clubs over Pride and even a shirt worn by ITV1s own Jeremy Kyle(!). We can now announce that Gaydio will be OUT AND PROUD across Manchester on 87.7FM live from our transmitter situated in The Gay village.

This means that you'll be able to get us in an area reaching from Salford Quays to The City of Manchester stadium and from Lower Moss Side to Higher Broughton. Of course you can still listen to us online if you live outside this area.

Our test transmissions will start on Monday 14th August and we'll be launching at 7am on Tuesday 15th August with the Ste and Abby breakfast show. Don't forget to sign up to our mailing list to be the first with all the latest information.

We are very pleased to announce the AXM have been confirmed as the headline sponsor for our first broadcast. This will help put the station at the heart of Manchester's LGBT community. Gaydio can confirm that they will be broadcasting from the offices of the Lesbian and Gay Foundation above the Hollywood Studio and Lounge, putting the station at the heart of LGBT Manchester.

"By broadcasting from the village it not only means that our programming can feature elements of the parade and festival, but we'll be close to the action and all the latest news and gossip" says programme controller Toby Whitehouse. Gaydio will also be able to bring you information about the vital services provided to the community by the LGF and sneaking interviews with many of the teams and organisations that operate from there.

On Sunday 16th July, Gaydio volunteer David ‘Murry’ Murat completed the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride on behalf of Christies – raising over £400. Supported by Gaydio, Murry completed the ride in less than four hours despite temperatures of more than 25 degrees. On completing the race Murry said “It was hot, but we’re just pleased that we could raise so much money for charity.”
