EuroPride 2023 in Malta

The dust has settled on another fabulous Euro Pride and Gaydio Breakfast were front and centre of all of the action as we flew Paris and Dave over for the celebrations, courtesy of Visit Malta.

Over the five days there they travelled the island, swam in crystal clear waters and took in the sights of one of the world's safest places for our LGBTQ+ communities to visit as Malta is number one on the IGLTA-Europe Rainbow Europe Index.

Day to Day Experiences

Throughout the week, Paris & Dave explored the stunning Mediterranean island and all it has to offer. They started their adventure by rolling through the streets of Valletta with Rolling Geeks

Rolling Geeks are self-driving electric cars with pre-set GPS routes, not only taking you on a curated tour but also offering insightful explanations about the points of interest. This means you can experience all the advantages of an organized excursion while enjoying the independence of driving your own distinctive electric vehicle.

From self-driving cars to a stunning boat tour around the Grand Harbour, Valletta has everything for a diverse experience.

Take a boat from the mainland and cruise around the crystal-clear blue water caves below Malta, the Blue Grotto which is one of the highlights of Malta and at the top of travellers' lists when visiting. As you take a local boat around the caves and as the electric blue light from the sea alights the caves, you look down to see marine life, especially jellyfish! After, once you are done with your boat tour, you are welcome to take a dip in the Mediterranean Sea and the local cove whilst lapping up the sun.

Just 20 minutes up the road from Valletta is the island's old capital from antiquity to the medieval period, Mdina. This traditional city, draped in history, is actually the location of the first Game of Thrones season. With local shops and just a few boutique hotels, this is the place to go for a quiet city break. With a view from the city walls over the capital city, Valletta, this is a must-see!

Whilst you're touring the capital, why not visit The Upper Barrakka Gardens which has a gorgeous view over the Grand Harbour. With a cannon salute going off at 12pm & 4pm and the viewing of the harbour below, it will take your breath away.

Lastly, Paris & Dave got invited to join Visit Malta for the EuroPride festivities with a Eurovision Concert the night before Europride Saturday. With acts like Conchita Wurst, The Busker (Malts Eurovision Act for 2023) and the UK's last winning entry from 1997, Katrina (From Katrina and the Waves) taking to the stage, it was a night with campness and a good old singalong to a packed out crowd.

EuroPride 2023

The main reason for our breakfast duo being in Malta was to dance the night away to EuroPride 2023 which was headlined by Christina Aguilera! Before the Queen took the stage in front of one of the biggest crowds EuroPride has seen, Malta had one of its biggest Pride marches as thousands upon thousands took to the streets of Valletta to be proud and be themselves. From the march to the festival site, Valletta was the place to be! Walking into the festival site for the evening the crowds were already screaming and jumping along to other incredible performances from Queenz (The Show with Balls) coming from London's West End singing queer anthems, to local and international artists giving you the summer vibes, Katerina Stikoudi, Emma Muscat & Eurovision icon Ira Losco.
