A Day in the Life of an Account Manager

Aston Medhurst Senior Account Manager Aston Medhurst works with brands to help them connect authentically with Gaydio’s LGBTQ+ audience. From developing creative campaigns to building long-term commercial partnerships, Aston’s role is all about matching the right brands with the right opportunities across the station.

Tell us about your role. What does an Account Manager at Gaydio do?
My job is to identify commercial opportunities for Gaydio by partnering with brands that want to connect with the LGBTQ+ community. I work with clients to create campaigns that align with the station and resonate with our audience, making sure the partnership works for both the brand and Gaydio.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I usually arrive around 8:00am, set up my desk, grab a coffee and maybe a piece of fruit from the fruit bowl. I start by going through emails from the previous day, replying to potential opportunities and setting up client meetings.

After that I review my diary and my pipeline of opportunities in Salesforce, checking what needs chasing up, progressing, or removing if it’s no longer relevant. A lot of the day is about keeping conversations moving and building relationships with clients.

What’s been one of the most exciting things you’ve worked on at Gaydio?
One highlight was a campaign with icelolly.com, where we created a brand new airtime sound using celebrity talent David Potts. We produced four audio trails that ran across the station throughout the year, alongside other media solutions to support their wider campaign objectives.

What’s it like working at Gaydio beyond the day-to-day job?
The social side of Gaydio is great. The team often gets together at lunchtime and there’s always excitement around things like upcoming interviews, guests in the studio, or performers at the Gaydio Pride Awards.

We also have team celebration events a few times a year, usually off-site, which are a great way to connect with everyone across the organisation.

Is there anything else that stands out from your time here?
Working at the Gaydio Awards is always a highlight. There are celebrity guests, live performances, and it’s amazing to see everything come together on the night. It’s hard work, but very rewarding, and a great example of the team coming together.

What would you say to someone thinking of applying to work at Gaydio?
It’s a great team to be part of and there are lots of opportunities to learn new skills along the way.

And just don’t take my clients… only joking. It’s a really good gig.
