Why Key West

For nearly 300,000 LGBTQ visitors each year, Key West offers a welcome as warm as the subtropical temperatures. The island has been an internationally known LGBTQ vacation destination for years and has a rich history in the LGBTQ community worldwide.

Situated at the southernmost point of North America's only archipelago, Key West has always been one of the few truly accepting come-as-you-are places where LGBTQ visitors could express their creativity, their freedom, their love.  Key West has ignored stereotypes and refused to see boundaries for centuries.  Today that acceptance is still celebrated and happily offered on this quirky, fun, authentic little island that is closer to Havana than Miami.  'One Human Family' is Key West's official government motto, a sunny island that is 'Close to Perfect but Far from Normal!

Noted for its charming, authentic streetscape, Key West is a sophisticated little island with amazing restaurants, diverse entertainment, eclectic art, professional theatre, and live music of every genre. Key West still boasts legendary same sex guest houses, and it also offers very LGBTQ friendly mainstream hotels and inns.  Hospitality is in the island’s DNA!

Drag shows, same sex weddings, an enormous menu of water excursions, late night parties, five beaches, and clothing optional resorts mean that there is always something going on in Key West.  The two mile by four mile island hosts popular events each year including Key West Pride in June, Tropical Heat in August, Womenfest in September and Fantasy Fest in October.

Whether you are looking for a romantic retreat, a relaxed getaway, a deep dive into culture and history, a great water adventure or just some plain decadent fun, you can find it in Key West!
