Prince Harry to appeal after privacy lawsuit against Daily Mail publisher dismissed

Prince Harry and other household names are appealing a judge's decision dismissing their privacy lawsuit against a newspaper group.

The Duke of Sussex was one of several high-profile British figures who sued ‌Associated Newspapers (ANL), publisher of the Daily Mail, for alleged unlawful information gathering, but their case was dismissed.

On Friday, a spokesperson representing him, as well as Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Sir Elton John, David Furnish, Liz Hurley, and Sadie Frost confirmed they would appeal.

Their statement said: "We confirm that the claimants have today filed applications with the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal the judgments of Mr Justice Nicklin in respect of his dismissal of their claims and the indemnity costs order.

"The claimants respectfully disagree with those unprecedented decisions, which they consider to be legally and factually flawed."

A bid to appeal against the rulings had been filed at the Court of Appeal, court staff confirmed on Friday.

Giving his verdict in July, the judge said the claimants had failed to prove their allegations of unlawful information gathering, and therefore their claims were dismissed.

ANL strongly denied the claims, which were heard at an 11-week trial in London earlier this year.

In a decision in August, the judge ruled the group had to pay £9,544,355 within seven days as an initial contribution to the publisher's costs ahead of further hearings to determine the total sum.
