Durham Pride UK takes place on Saturday 30 May 2026 at The Sands, Durham, with the iconic parade leaving Durham Cathedral at 11am and processing through the historic city centre. The 2026 dates were moved to 30 May (from the traditional 23-24 May slot) to avoid clashing with BBC Big Weekend at Herrington Country Park in Sunderland, which is expected to draw 80,000 music fans and would have stretched regional policing, transport and medical services too thin to safely deliver both events.
Durham Pride UK was founded in 2014 by Mel Metcalf and the Durham Pride team, growing from an estimated 1,500 at the first event to 20,000 in 2023 across the county-wide programme. The Sands sits beside the River Wear under the Cathedral, giving the festival a backdrop few UK Prides can match, with the parade route taking in the cobbled streets of one of England's most photographed cities. Durham Pride is a registered charity (1159910) supporting LGBT+ people across County Durham year-round through its Support and Advice Line, training and the North East England Rainbow Alliance.
Durham Pride is free, with parade group bookings and stall bookings for 2026 open via the official site. Any profit from the event funds Durham Pride's year-round charitable work supporting LGBT+ people across the county. Check the Durham Pride UK website for the confirmed 2026 line-up, parade route, sponsorship opportunities and accessibility info.
