Kyran Thrax on hosting Manchester’s first ever Glam Prix

The star-filled go-kart race will be bringing the chaos to this year’s pride!
Turn on your engines because Manchester’s first-ever drag queen drag race will be taking place on Wednesday 20 August at Manchester’s iconic Chaos Karts.
The Glam Prix is a one-night-only event where some of the UK’s fiercest drag queens swap stilettos for steering wheels and race it out on a video game-style karting track for the chance to be crowned the first-ever Glam Prix World Champion.
The event is part of Manchester Pride Week, bringing together drag performance, queer joy, and pure ridiculous fun in a way that’s never been done before. The race is also raising funds in support of The Proud Trust, an LGBTQ+ youth charity based in Manchester.
Hosted by drag royalty Kyran Thrax, The Glam Prix features a star-studded lineup of UK drag icons – including Sophia Stardust, Yshee Black, Big Dee, and more.
On having the privilege of being the hostess with the mostest, Kyran told Gaydio: “they're very smart for having me host and not compete because they need to give the other girls an opportunity at winning the title”
Kyran gushed about the fierce cast of competing queens: “They are all absolutely gorgeous. I met them last week — we did a photo shoot all together. They are so amazing. So much fun.”
She’s especially rooting for her best friend and fellow performer, Sophia Stardust. “My best friend is competing… so I’m working this cross for her,” Kyran joked. “But I can’t. I physically cannot rig it. So even if I could, I can’t.”
As for the future of the Glam Prix, Kyran is dreaming big: “If we scream and shout about it enough, hopefully there’ll be another one down the line. I think this should be a yearly thing. I’m not going to lie. I’ve been saying this: it should be televised. I think it should be the new Olympics.”
But don’t think she’s staying completely off the track:
“Babe, it’s me. Of course I am,” she laughed, when asked if she’d be sneaking in a cheeky test lap. “I’m going to get in. I’m going to show them how it’s done before they do it.”
With the Glam Prix serving as the glitter-dusted, engine-revving pre-party to Manchester Pride, Kyran sees it as the perfect way to kick things off — and maybe slow them down just a bit.
“Yeah, it’s gorgeous,” she said. “And it gives all the queens, you know… a couple of days to recover from their injuries.”
Whilst she was here, we - of course - had to test them on their racing knowledge in a game we've called "Drag or Drag Race?"
Whilst the event is invite-only, content will be released on social media so fans can keep up with all the on-track action!
Chaos Karts are running a Pride-themed competition across their social media channels offering three winners the chance to win x2 tickets each to jump behind the wheel and race the queens. The competition closes on the 18th of August - so head over to their socials for a chance to get involved!
