Suspect in fatal stabbing of British woman in Germany detained in psychiatric hospital

A suspect in the fatal stabbing of a British woman in Germany has been detained in a psychiatric hospital, police have said.

The 31-year-old woman died in hospital after she suffered "severe injuries" in the knife attack at the Rosenheim train station on Sunday.

A 27-year-old German citizen was arrested at the scene "immediately after the attack", Bavarian Police said.

He appeared before a judge and has since been detained in a psychiatric hospital on suspicion of murder.

It is not yet clear whether the man and the woman were known to each other.

Police are investigating the motive and background of the stabbing, and have appealed to the public for more information.

They have asked anyone who witnessed "an argument" or a "physical altercation" at the station in the early hours of the morning to come forward.

A spokesman for the foreign office said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Germany are in touch with the local authorities."
