Everything you need to know about WorldPride's legendary Canal Parade

Amsterdam's famous Canal Parade takes over the city's waterways this Saturday — here's what makes it one of the most spectacular Pride events on the planet.

The Canal Parade sails through Amsterdam's canals this Saturday, 1 August 2026, and it's set to be the most spectacular edition yet. Roughly 80 decorated boats will sail through the historic canals in front of an estimated half a million spectators, all part of WorldPride coming to the Netherlands for the first time.

Spectators can watch about 80 boats representing everything from small LGBTQI+ foundations to pink organisations within national multinational networks, all cruising the city canals in elaborately decorated boats. Unlike most Pride celebrations that march through streets, Amsterdam's takes to the water — a tradition that's been running for three decades.

A temporary stadium with 9,000 seats will be built on the Prinsengracht that the Canal Parade sails straight through, a first for the event. The WorldPride Stadium on the Prinsengracht has around 10,000 seats where the boats sail straight through — a spectacular, one-time experience.

The boat parade starts at 12:00 from the Oosterdok, with the first boat expected to arrive at the stadium around 12:30. The route runs from Oosterdok through Nieuwe Herengracht, Amstel, Prinsengracht to Westerdok.

The timing is symbolic: 2026 is the 25th anniversary of the Netherlands becoming the first country in the world to open civil marriage to same-sex couples, back in 2001. The 2026 theme is UNITY, reflecting Amsterdam's identity as a city of over 180 nationalities.

Most of the programme — including the Canal Parade, Street Parties, WorldPride Village, and WorldPride March — is free to attend. There are two types of tickets for the stadium: All Inclusive Tickets which include a seat, music and food and drinks, and Seat Only Tickets.

WorldPride Amsterdam runs from 25 July to 8 August, with the Canal Parade as its centrepiece. Pride Amsterdam is the organisation behind the event, which has grown from a small gathering in 1996 into one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ celebrations.
