Judge caught speeding three times while 'rushing' to court

A judge has been disciplined after he was caught speeding on three occasions while "rushing" to court.

Deputy District Judge Charles Crow was handed nine penalty points on his driving licence for the three offences between November 2023 and March 2026, the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO) said.

Judge Crow apologised and said he was "embarrassed" by his conduct.

He said he would use more public transport and speed-limiting controls when driving, as well as improving his time management.

Judge Crow was also given formal advice for misconduct.

The JCIO said: "Judge Crow apologised and stated that he was embarrassed by his conduct.

"He accepted responsibility for the offences and acknowledged that they amounted to misconduct.

"He explained that the offences occurred while travelling to or from court and that rushing had been a contributing factor.

"He outlined steps taken to prevent recurrence, including greater use of public transport, improved time management, and increased use of speed-limiting controls when driving."

He was put through fast-track misconduct proceedings after accepting wrongdoing.

Judicial misconduct hearings take place in private.

A spokesperson for the JCIO said: "The Lady Chief Justice, with the Lord Chancellor's agreement, has issued Deputy District Judge Charles Crow with formal advice for misconduct."

Drivers in the UK lose their licence when they accumulate 12 or more penalty points within a three-year period.
