Raheem Sterling charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after crash

Former England international Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation after a motorway crash.

The 31-year-old was also charged with failing to provide a specimen. He will appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on 15 September.

It comes after a single-vehicle collision involving a Lamborghini on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May this year, according to Hampshire Police.

The force said that no other vehicles were involved in the collision and no injuries were reported.

Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Sterling moved to the UK at five years old. He was named one of the best young talents in football while playing at Liverpool.

He then switched to Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, winning four Premier League titles and helping the club break the league points record.

Sterling transferred to Chelsea in 2022 and was loaned to Arsenal in 2024 before his contract at Stamford Bridge was terminated in January.

After a brief stint with Dutch club Feyenoord, Sterling is now without a club.

He was also a mainstay of the England national team line-ups under former manager Gareth Southgate, scoring 20 goals across three World Cups and two Euros tournaments.
