Amsterdam WorldPride 2026: Where to Stay, Eat and Celebrate in Europe’s Most Inclusive City

Amsterdam is preparing to welcome more than 1.2 million visitors for WorldPride 2026, running from July 25 to August 8 - and there couldn’t be a more fitting host city. As the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage, the Netherlands is marking the 25th anniversary of marriage equality with what promises to be one of the biggest LGBTQ+ celebrations Europe has ever seen.

To discover the very best places to stay, eat and experience during WorldPride, Gaydio sent Nat Evans to Amsterdam for a whirlwind three-day, two-night adventure through the Dutch capital. From canal cruises and queer history tours to luxury hotels and unforgettable nightlife, Amsterdam proved exactly why it remains one of the world’s most welcoming LGBTQ+ destinations.

Where to Stay in Amsterdam for WorldPride 2026

Volks Hotel: Creative, Cool and Surprisingly Affordable

Nat’s Amsterdam base was the stylish Volks Hotel, located just outside the city centre. It’s the kind of place that perfectly captures Amsterdam’s effortlessly cool personality. With accommodation ranging from budget-friendly sleeping pods to spacious studio apartments, the hotel caters to every kind of traveller.

But Volks is much more than just a hotel. By day, the lively café downstairs becomes a hub for freelancers and remote workers, with locals filling the communal hot desks and coffee corners. By night, the atmosphere transforms entirely - guests can enjoy panoramic rooftop spa facilities, cocktails with skyline views, and even a nightclub downstairs that keeps going until 6am on weekends.

After arriving, Nat joined welcome drinks hosted by Marco Dreijer, who shared details about Amsterdam’s arts and cultural programme for WorldPride. Dinner followed with a tour of the hotel and a conversation with PR Manager Tiji Bullock about the building’s history and unique community-focused atmosphere.

Discovering Amsterdam’s Queer History

Walking Through LGBTQ+ History with Badass Tours

One of the highlights of Nat’s trip was the Queer Heroes for Amsterdam Walking Tour with Badass Tours. Far beyond a typical sightseeing experience, the tour dives deep into Amsterdam’s LGBTQ+ history, revisiting legendary lesbian bars, protest movements, and the individuals who fought against discrimination and police persecution.

The tour began at Lellebel, one of Amsterdam’s most beloved drag bars. Hidden just off bustling Rembrandtplein, Lellebel may be small, but it’s overflowing with personality. Known for drag performances, comedy nights and its hugely popular Sunday karaoke sessions, it instantly became one of Nat’s favourite discoveries in the city.

The group also stopped at the National Monument on Dam Square, one of Amsterdam’s most important memorial sites and a key landmark during Pride celebrations.

Best Places to Eat During WorldPride

A Beautiful Mess: Front Row Seats for the Pride Canal Parade

If you want one of the best possible views of Amsterdam’s iconic Pride Canal Parade, Nat says you should book early at A Beautiful Mess. Located right at the beginning of the parade route, the restaurant will be surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people during WorldPride celebrations.

The venue itself reflects Amsterdam’s diversity beautifully, with an international team serving dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world. Nat spoke with event coordinator Oltana about the restaurant’s mission, multicultural menu and plans for WorldPride.

Sea Palace: Floating Chinese Dining with a View

Another standout dining experience was Sea Palace, Europe’s first and largest floating Chinese restaurant. Moored just a short five-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station, the striking multi-level restaurant combines authentic cuisine with stunning waterfront views.

Luxury Hotels Worth the Splurge

PRESSROOM Amsterdam: Boutique Luxury with Newspaper Heritage

For travellers wanting a more luxurious WorldPride stay, Nat recommends PRESSROOM Amsterdam. Housed inside the former headquarters of Dutch newspaper De Tijd, the hotel beautifully blends historic architecture with modern boutique design.

Its central location makes it ideal for Pride celebrations, while the restaurant left a huge impression on Nat - especially the open kitchen concept that lets guests watch chefs at work. The hotel even created a personalised newspaper-style welcome article for her arrival, adding a thoughtful touch to the experience.

Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam: Five-Star Perfection

If there was one place that completely stole the show, it was Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. Overlooking one of Amsterdam’s picturesque canals and located near the Red Light District, Nat described it simply as “five-star perfection.”

The standout feature? The food.

Nat said she had “never ever eaten such mouth-watering delicious food,” and highly recommends booking lunch or dinner there even if you’re not staying overnight. The hotel’s Garden Terrace offers a peaceful retreat from the busy city streets, while its history as a venue for many same-sex marriages makes it especially meaningful during WorldPride celebrations.

To mark the visit, the hotel’s chef even created a custom rainbow cake for lunch - a colourful and delicious tribute to Pride.

Exploring Amsterdam by Canal

No trip to Amsterdam is complete without a canal cruise, and Nat experienced the city from the water with Blue Boat Company. During Amsterdam Pride and WorldPride, the company’s entire crew will be LGBTQ+, creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere onboard.

The cruise offered a completely different perspective of the city’s historic canals, bridges and iconic architecture while highlighting the importance of representation and inclusivity in tourism.

Amsterdam’s Legendary LGBTQ+ Nightlife

From Homomonument to Reguliersdwarsstraat

Nat’s favourite experience of the entire trip was exploring Amsterdam’s nightlife with the city’s self-described “Night Mayor”, Freek Wallagh. The tour offered a fascinating insight into Amsterdam’s queer nightlife culture - past and present.

The evening began at the iconic Homomonument, one of the world’s most significant LGBTQ+ memorials and a central gathering place during Pride celebrations. During WorldPride 2026, this area is expected to become one of the city’s biggest party hubs.

The night ended on Reguliersdwarsstraat, Amsterdam’s famous LGBTQ+ nightlife street, where bars, terraces and clubs spill onto the streets with music, dancing and energy long into the early hours. It’s vibrant, welcoming and exactly the kind of atmosphere visitors travel across the world to experience.

Is Amsterdam Worth Visiting for WorldPride 2026?

Absolutely.

Amsterdam already has a reputation as one of Europe’s most open-minded and LGBTQ+ friendly cities, but during WorldPride 2026 it’s set to become something truly extraordinary. Whether you’re visiting for the history, nightlife, food, culture or simply to celebrate Pride in one of the most inclusive cities on Earth, Amsterdam delivers unforgettable experiences at every turn.

From hidden drag bars and luxury canal-side hotels to queer history tours and world-class restaurants, this is a city that knows how to celebrate diversity - and WorldPride 2026 could be its biggest celebration yet.
