Canada to debut as next Eurovision “non-euro” entrant in 2027

After years of speculation, Canada is officially joining the Eurovision Song Contest, becoming the first new competing nation in more than a decade.

Canada will officially take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria in 2027, marking the country's first appearance in the competition.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada's national public broadcaster, will enter the contest after becoming a full EBU member.

Canada will compete in one of the two Semi-Finals, with details of how its first-ever Eurovision act will be selected expected later this year.

Marie-Philippe Bouchard, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, said the broadcaster was excited to showcase Canadian talent on "one of the most storied music stages in the world."

The EBU says Canada has become one of Eurovision's biggest international fan bases. During the 2026 contest, the country ranked among the top three in the "Rest of the World" vote, while many fans travelled to Vienna for the live shows.

Eurovision director Martin Green welcomed Canada to the contest, saying the country already has a special place in Eurovision history thanks to Céline Dion's victory for Switzerland in 1988.

The most recent non-European entrant to the competition was Australia in 2015, with notable entries from Austalian Idol and X-Factor winners Guy Sebastian and Isaiah Firebrace, and former Neighbours actress Delta Goodrem, who finished fourth in this years competition in Vienna.

More than 130 million people watched the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, underlining the competition's growing global appeal ahead of Canada's debut next year.
