Stars pay tribute to Bonnie Tyler after her death aged 75

Stars from across music, television and film have been paying tribute to Bonnie Tyler following the news of her death at the age of 75.

Her family and management announced the news in a statement shared on her official website and social media channels on Thursday morning. They said the Welsh singer died "unexpectedly" on Wednesday night in a hospital in Portugal "as a result of the illness that she was being treated for."

The Welsh music icon, best known for hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for a Hero and Lost in France, inspired an outpouring of love from fellow celebrities who remembered her talent, warmth and unmistakable voice.

Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies shared a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on growing up in South Wales and the lasting impact Bonnie had on him.

He wrote: "What a fabulous Welsh woman! ... I never heard a Swansea person say a bad word about her. That's rare, in a bitchy old world."

Recalling hearing Lost in France as a teenager, he added: "For a closeted gay teenager, all the sadness and longing of that song told my camp little heart: that's what life is like."

Davies also praised Tyler for proudly keeping her Welsh identity throughout her career, saying: "My God, that magnificent Skewen rasp never buckled... Night, cariad. Thank you for the music."

Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones described Tyler as "our Queen Bonnie", writing: "My heart is broken. You were such a part of my life. Sleep tight beautiful lady."

Broadcaster Carol Vorderman said Tyler's music represented strength and resilience for Wales.

"As a Welsh woman Bonnie and her music represented so much to us. It was about fighting and power and living life without apology. May you rest in Musical Glory Bonnie."

Actress Bonnie Langford also paid tribute, joking about the pair often being mistaken for one another because of their shared first name.

"So sad. We were often confused by people in name. Honoured to share that."

Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna remembered working alongside Tyler, calling it "a dream come true".

"She was an incredible lady to work with and was so kind to me. It was such an honour to sing with her – a dream come true that I'll always treasure. Sending so much love to her family."

Bonnie Tyler's powerful voice and timeless catalogue of hits made her one of Britain's most recognisable singers, with generations of fans and fellow stars now celebrating her extraordinary legacy.
