Danny Beard says Celebrity Big Brother axe would be "a real shame"

The Celebrity Big Brother finalist says reports the ITV reality series could be shelved would be "a real shame", but hopes the programme will return.

Drag performer and broadcaster Danny Beard has said it would be "a real shame" if Celebrity Big Brother is taken off air, amid ongoing speculation about the future of the ITV reality series.

Speaking exclusively to Dave Cooper on Gaydio Breakfast this morning, Beard said they had heard reports the celebrity version of the programme may not return because of its high production costs.

"I've heard that it's not coming back because it costs a lot of money, and it is a real shame," Beard said. "If that is the truth, it's a real shame."

Beard, who reached the final of this year's series, only to be beaten into second place by Jack P. Shepherd, joked that fellow housemate Mickey Rourke had been "on a wedge"  (a large amount of money to the non-scouse speaking population), before laughing that they were "probably going to do ITV's head in" with the comment.

Despite the rumours surrounding the show's future, Beard said they remain a huge fan of the show.

"I absolutely adore Big Brother. I think it's one of the best TV shows, and I love being part of it."

Asked whether the programme could simply take a break before returning in 2027, Beard joked: "You know what? It might just have a year break. Ross and Rachel did that on Friends, and look at them now."
