Bulgaria's Burgas named as Eurovision 2027 host city

Bulgaria's national broadcaster has announced The Black Sea city of Burgas will host Eurovision Song Contest 2027 next May.

Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas has been announced as the host of Eurovision 2027, bringing the contest to the country's seaside for the first time.

The announcement follows Bulgaria's historic triumph at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, where DARA won with "Bangaranga", earning 516 points, a record 173 point winning margin. It was Bulgaria's first-ever Eurovision victory.

Arena Burgas, which opened in 2023, can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators for concerts, comfortably meeting the European Broadcasting Union's minimum requirement of 10,000. The modern venue is one of only two in Bulgaria that meets the capacity standards for hosting the contest.

Burgas is Bulgaria's fourth-largest city with a population of around 225,000, and is one of the country's main tourist destinations. The city is highlighting its reputation as a leading tourist destination, presenting a seaside setting that would offer visitors a different Eurovision experience.

From 2027, all artists must be at least 18 years old on the day of their first rehearsal, rather than 16. The European Broadcasting Union says the change will strengthen safeguarding and protect younger artists from the pressures associated with competing.

The EBU has also introduced a new framework allowing it to prevent winning countries from hosting if security is compromised. Under the rules, a winner can be deemed ineligible to host if an armed conflict, sensitive geopolitical situation or other circumstance affects the safety or stability of the country or its region.

Tickets for Eurovision 2027 have not yet gone on sale. Fans hoping to attend can sign up to Eurofan, the official Eurovision fan club, to be notified when ticket details are announced.
