Everton have been put up for sale less than two years after current owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), took control of the Premier League club.
TFG, a privately-held business and investment consortium, said in a statement on Friday it was "exploring new investment options" which include selling the club should suitable new owners come forward.
The group bought previous owner Farhad Moshiri's 94.1 per cent stake in Everton for a reported £400m in December 2024 and oversaw the move from Goodison Park to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
"When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch," an Everton statement said on Friday.
"The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club's future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.
"With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.
"Throughout this process, TFG's focus will remain unchanged. We will support the club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the club serves."
After taking over, TFG, which also owns Serie A club Roma, told supporters "restoring Everton to its rightful place in the Premier League table will take time".
But the owners were criticised for a poor summer transfer window, with the sale of Beto to Fiorentina and the late collapse of a deal to sign United States striker Folarin Balogun leaving the club with just one recognised striker in Thierno Barry.
