'Multiple suspects' after five shot at Virginia State University

Five people have been shot at Virginia State University (VSU) in an incident involving "multiple suspects" that sparked a campus lockdown.

The victims were found outside dormitories when campus police and Chesterfield County officers responded just before 1.30am on Saturday.

Police said one person was in a critical condition and the others had non-life threatening injuries after the shooting, which happened near the Quad Annexes.

The university said "multiple suspects" were involved and a "significant law enforcement presence" remained despite the lockdown ending around 9am.

No arrests have been announced but officials said they would give more details later today.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff's Office are also involved, county police said.
