Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a Glee reboot from 20th Television. No cast or producers are named yet, but co-creator Ryan Murphy says he has finished a script and been in touch with about 10 of the original stars.
Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a reboot of Glee, the musical drama that ran from 2009 to 2015. The new series will come from 20th Television, the studio that made the original.
The announcement came on Wednesday and was very short. Disney named no producers or cast, and there's no premiere date yet.
We do know a bit, though. Murphy told Entertainment Tonight he had just finished a script with the show's other creators, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. He also said he'd been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members.
Murphy added that the cast had a lot of questions about how their characters would fit in, but that they were all very enthusiastic about the idea.
Glee followed a group of show choir members in Lima, Ohio, as they dealt with the highs and lows of high school and beyond. It ran for six seasons and won six Emmys.
For a lot of queer viewers, though, Glee was about more than the songs. The show was praised for its teen gay and lesbian characters, especially Kurt's coming-out scene in the fourth episode.
Kurt was played by Chris Colfer, who was one of the first out gay men to play a gay character in a leading ensemble role.
The show's work was recognised with it winning two GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series.
