Galop Co-CEO Jasmine O’Connor Speaks to Gaydio for IDAHOBIT

The UK’s leading LGBTQ+ anti-abuse charity discusses rising hate crime reports, community safety and why more people are reaching out for support.

To mark IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Producer Bella from Gaydio Breakfast spoke to Jasmine O’Connor, co-CEO of Galop, the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ anti-abuse charity.

IDAHOBIT takes place every year on 17th May. The day was created to raise awareness of the discrimination, violence and inequality LGBTQ+ people still face around the world, while also celebrating progress within the community. The date marks the anniversary of homosexuality being removed from the World Health Organisation’s list of mental illnesses in 1990.

Jasmine discusses the rise in hate crime reports, why more LGBTQ+ people are reaching out for support, and how attitudes towards the community in the UK have shifted in recent years.
